If your dentist, Dr. Kenneth Kirk, has recently fit you for a set of dentures, the appliance will fit securely into the unique shape of your mouth. Even with this secure fit, many people with dentures find it helpful to apply denture adhesives for an extra-firm hold. Adhesives are also beneficial in keeping food away from your appliance and gums.

If you do happen to have a few stray food particles infiltrate the base of your dentures, you should completely rinse the dentures and remove any residual adhesive. Then, you can lightly dry the base with a paper towel before applying fresh adhesive.

When you take your dentures out at night, you will need to rinse off any residual adhesive. Then, you can brush your dentures with a nonabrasive toothpaste or denture polish before soaking them overnight in water. This will provide a clean surface so you can reapply the denture adhesive the next morning.

When you are shopping for denture adhesives, you want to always look for the American Dental Association Seal of Acceptance. This seal proves that the ADA has tested the product for safety and effectiveness.
